December Eco-Contemplative Liturgy

Our eco-contemplative liturgy will be on Sunday 28th December 2026 at 9.45 outdoors in the Southwood Garden at St James’s Piccadilly and online via Zoom (see link below) on ‘praying the in-between times’, led by Deborah Colvin. Gatherings are 30-40 minutes long.

Our eco-contemplative liturgies are a long-established tradition at St James’s. Eco-Contemplative Liturgies are a uniquely St James’s thing! You’re very welcome to come along and see if it’s your thing too.

Each service has a similar format of opening prayers and readings, often from Scripture or poetry. This flows into 15 minutes of individual, quiet contemplative time where we explore the Southwood Garden (or wherever you are for online participants). Afterwards, we come together to share something of our experience, then conclude with a short reading.

Join us in person

Everyone is welcome to join us for this time of reflection and encounter with the natural world. We meet outdoors at St James’s, whatever the weather. Make your way up the steps behind the fountain and look for us at the far end of the garden.

Accessibility
The venue presents accessibility challenges as there are 13 steps up to the garden. Once in the garden, accessible paths and bench seating are available. We want to ensure that all members of our community can fully participate in our services. If you require accessible arrangements or have concerns about accessing the garden space, please contact us by email (on the link below at the end of this page) 24 hours in advance so that we can help to include you. The service will be moved to the courtyard, which has step-free access, on the day if required.

Join us online via Zoom

The link and service sheet are available on this page and via the St James’s Weekly Newsletter, and the meeting will usually be opened by 9.35am. You are invited to be outside if possible, or near a window, plant or other link to the natural world. Those online will be invited to read or contribute reflections alongside those offered by people in the garden, or you may choose to participate silently.
